Hi, I’m Karli-an Air Force veteran, nurse, and proud mom to a beautifully diverse family. I created Uniformly Human as a space where health, humanity, and heart intersect.

My journey has been anything but linear—and I wouldn’t change a thing.
I joined the U.S. Air Force at 18 and got married young, ready to build a life grounded in service and purpose. I served for six years as a mechanic, navigating a male-dominated world with grit and determination. Near the end of my enlistment, I gave birth to my first child—and soon after, my world shifted. I discovered my husband was having an affair. With an honorable discharge, a newborn in my arms, and a broken heart, I returned home determined to start over.
Becoming a single mom lit a fire in me. I dove into nursing school with one goal: to create a stable, meaningful life for my child and myself. Nursing became more than a career—it was a calling. I’ve since worked in med-surg, school nursing, and skilled nursing, eventually finding my passion in educating and mentoring future nurses.
In my hardest seasons, I turned to exercise and wellness not just to survive—but to heal. Fitness became my therapy, a space where I could reclaim strength, reset my mindset, and transform pain into power. Movement helped me stay grounded, focused, and whole. It still does.
Today, I’m not only a nurse educator but also the proud mom of two amazing kids, including a trans son who has deepened my understanding of identity, advocacy, and unconditional love. My family is diverse, loud, loving, and beautifully real.
Uniformly Human is about honoring all the “uniforms” we wear—military, medical, parental—and the full humanity underneath them. Here, I share stories of resilience, wellness tips, lived truths, and unapologetic authenticity. This is a space for anyone who believes in showing up fully—fit, fierce, and focused.
Thanks for being here. You belong.
